Activities in the Dordogne
Trips to some of the many picturesque medieval villages, and bastides, a visit to beautiful castles and churches of wich the region has so many.
The village of Cadouin with its weekly nightmarket; the “Marché Nocturne” on monday. Not a regular market but a true feast of live music and nice food.
The village of Cadouin is within a distance of 5 kms, the fortified city of Beaumont-du-Périgord you wil find at 9 kms.
Walking: The region offers a wide range of walks, including a beautiful part of the Santiago de Compostella trail, which runs close to “Rastaillou”.
Cycling is possible, but be prepared to spend some energy ! The Dordogne is hilly and anything but flat !
Canoeing or kayaking on the Dordogne or Vézère river or a boattrip in a “Gabarre”.
Playing golf on one of the 6 golfcourses in the region, all within 45 minutes drive.
Visit some of the famous wine houses; the Bergerac wines gained a lot of quality the last years and a bit further west lies the Bordeaux region with its famous wines and chateaux.
The region is famous for its “foie-gras”. For lovers of this delicacy a visit to a farm is possible and the related museum is a must !
Bergerac and Sarlat are at 35 an 45 kms. Bordeaux is a great city and well worth visitingxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You will find about 1 1/2 hours drive.
The Atlantic Ocean can be reached in about 2 1/2 hours, the Pyrenees in 3 hours.
At “Rastaillou” you can relax, enjoy swimming or sunbathing and of course you can test your skill in the national French sport: Pétanque !
